The biological diversity of the Caspian Sea and its coastal area makes this region one of the most valuable ecosystems in the world. The Caspian Sea is home to 147 species of fish, 450 species or forms of phytoplankton, 87 species of algae, and 315 species of zooplankton.
Under the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 9 July 2004 No. 593-II ‘On Protection, Reproduction and Use of Animal World’, Entities carrying out economic and other activities are obliged to compensate for the harm caused and inflicted on fish resources and other aquatic animals, including the inevitable, in the amount determined in accordance with the methodology approved by the authorized body.
In 2019, Isatay Operating Company LLP conducted 2D seismic survey in the Isatay area according to the compensation rules Isatay Operating Company LLP in 2020 stocked the Zhaiyk river with young sturgeon species in the amount of 100 000 pieces.
The stocking of reservoirs is carried out in virtue of scientific recommendations issued by a scientific organization in the field of protection, reproduction and use of the animal world. For this purpose, studies of fish habitat conditions (hydrological, hydrochemical regime of the river, ichthyological studies and fish food supply) were carried out in the Zhaiyk river. The species composition of fish and their biological characteristics were determined along the entire riverbed of the Zhaiyk river.
An expedition trip to the Zhaiyk river was conducted in order to survey river reach for stocking young sterlets. During the survey of the river, weather conditions were taken into account: wind direction, waves and transparency.
The collection and processing of the material were carried out according to the methods generally accepted in hydrochemistry, hydrobiology and ichthyology.
